Bass Pro Shops Company Information
Bass Pro Shops Overview
Bass Pro Shops is an outdoor merchandiser with stores throughout the United States and Canada. They carry products for hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities that many people enjoy throughout the world. The company is the leading outdoor retailer, with more than $3.8 billion in revenue. Started by John L. Morris in 1971, Bass Pro Shops began selling homemade fishing bait and worms from the back of a liquor store in Springfield, Missouri. In 1974, Mr. Morris published the first catalogue, allowing customers to purchase bait without coming to the liquor store.
Three years later, the catalogue included Tracker fishing boats with trailers and motors that were ready to take out on the water. The company builds and sells boats directly to consumers instead of using a middleman, helping to save customers money on every purchase. Since then, more than 400,000 Tracker fishing boats have sold. The first Bass Pro Shops store opened in 1988 and has grown to include more than 70 retail locations. The stores are large warehouse-style buildings with space to showcase the thousands of different products for sale.
Bass Pro Shops Job OpportunitiesBass Pro Shops have many different career options for those who enjoy spending time outdoors. Since there are many retail locations throughout North America, candidates can find job openings near their city. Those who are just starting out in their careers can work as salespeople or help to stock shelves in the retail stores, both of which won't require too much formal education.
As these employees learn more about the business, they will have opportunities to advance and become managers in specific departments, such as boat service, apparel, gifts, camping, and more. Those with an education in human resources or maintenance of buildings and landscaping can oversee employees in those departments as well.
