New Jersey Transit Overview

With a service area covering 5,325 square miles, NJ TRANSIT provides safe and reliable transportation to the public in New Jersey and the surrounding area. NJ TRANSIT is the third largest transit system in the United States with bus, rail, and light rail vehicles linking the city to Philadelphia, New York and beyond. In all, they have 2,027 buses, 45 light rail vehicles, and 711 trains in the transit system. 223 million passenger trips are supported each year. NJ TRANSIT does the best they can to ensure buses and trains stay on schedule despite congested traffic, although delays are sometimes necessary.
In addition to standard transit services, NJ TRANSIT also provides special transportation services to the disabled and senior citizens living in the New Jersey metropolitan area. This is done through a fleet of privately-owned contract buses. All transit services are done with the utmost in professional care and service. NJ TRANSIT realizes that their transportation services are vital to the employment, social and recreational needs of the New Jersey public. The transit system improves everyone's quality of life.
