The settings in which Information and Record Clerks may work can vary from healthcare offices to hotel lobbies. In a college setting, a Registrar is responsible for oversight of student services and academic records with numerous support personnel assisting. In a medical office, a Registrar may record patient information as an individual registers to receive services. Communication skills are important as a Registrar interacts with others to collect data. Computer skills may be needed for researching and recording information as well.

Registrar Job Market

Slow growth is expected for careers in information services with a 2-percent increase expected by 2022. Areas of anticipated growth include the travel industry as hotels and related services increase. Government growth in the field is also expected in connection with an aging population of baby boomers as individuals take advantage of Social Security and retirement benefits. Job growth for University and College Registrars is expected to reach 15 percent by 2022, a faster growth rate than for other types of jobs. This will be the result of increasing attendance at post-secondary institutions as individuals endeavor to prepare for higher-level employment opportunities. A large part of this increase will be connected to online access to college courses.
