Biomedical Equipment Technician Overview

Biomedical equipment technicians are responsible for keeping medical devices up and running. They assemble medical machines and test them to make sure that they are running properly. They perform routine maintenance on the machines and make repairs as needed. They fill out and maintain documentation on the various machines and the repairs they have done. Biomedical equipment technicians also teach the staff how to use the equipment properly and how to perform small fixes to the machines.

Biomedical equipment technicians work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes and other medical facilities. They generally work under supervision though some are self-employed. While technicians may work alone while making repairs, they must also cooperate and collaborate with their supervisors and with the staff who will be using the equipment.
