Director of Bioinformatics Overview

A director of bioinformatics is in charge of directing and regulating a team of bioinformatic scientists towards a common goal. Bioinformatics scientists study various ways to extract, analyze, and store biological information that may be of use in the future. These scientists are responsible for many of the cloning projects of the past, as well as the Human Genome Project. A director of bioinformatics must be experienced in the field of bioinformatics in addition to having a high level of education. The career pays extraordinarily well.

Director of Bioinformatics Education Requirements

A director of bioinformatics must hold a bachelor’s degree in biology, anatomy, genetics, or a related field. It’s far more common for directors of bioinformatics to have a Ph.D. as the field is highly competitive and requires years of experience. In addition, creative thinking ability is important as is the ability to quickly make decisions with limited information.

Directors of bioinformatics often conduct research into pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, and even information science.

Director of Bioinformatics Salary
