Inventory Control Supervisor Overview

An Inventory Control Supervisor is responsible for the control of goods and products for a company and is usually in charge of several Inventory Clerks. These supervisors are responsible for tracking inventory levels, ordering more merchandise when it is needed and predicting when more of a certain product will be in demand. The pay is usually on the lower end of the scale, but the job tends to be available to anyone. Similar inventory control jobs include positions such as inventory clerk jobs and inventory management jobs.

Inventory Control Supervisor Educational Requirements

A high school diploma is all that is needed to become an Inventory Control Supervisor; however, some work experience is usually required. Inventory Control Supervisors typically begin as Inventory Clerks and then work their way up through promotion. Some on-the-job training is given because the way each company manages inventory is slightly different. In addition, leadership skills and an attitude as a team player are crucial. The ability to interact with customers, a lot of patience, and skill in predicting rises and drops in the need for products can also be beneficial.

The pay depends on an employee's amount of experience, the number of responsibilities and the size of the company. Companies that offer specialized products will often pay their Inventory Control Supervisors more than companies selling a wide variety of products because of the amount of precision needed in daily tasks.
