Retails jobs are almost as plentiful as hospitality jobs, making them a common starting job. Businesses need retail associates, managers and other office personnel. Retail associates are responsible for assisting customers, processing customer payments, keeping showrooms organized and any other specific tasks assigned by the store manager. They are needed in stores that sell merchandise ranging from clothing and furniture to auto parts and custom goods.

Retail Job Education RequirementsNo special education or training is required to work in an entry-level retail position, but a high school diploma or GED is preferable for all retail associates. More education also gives people seeking retail jobs more room to grow and advance into management or hold more specialized retail jobs, such as a retail loss analyst. However, attention to detail, math skills and physical stamina are required. Retail associates spend most of their time on their feet, often the entire shift.
Retail jobs are commonly held by high school and college students as a first job, but anyone can apply for a retail job if they have customer service skills. Retail jobs are predominantly part-time positions, but full time positions are definitely available.
