Assistant Director of Nursing Overview


An assistant director of nursing is responsible for helping the director of nursing with various tasks as well as managing the daily flow of work around a specific ward. Assistant directors of nursing speak with families, handling complaints from disgruntled patrons and staff. They set up the nursing schedule for that area, and many will also help with admissions or serve as a standard nurse when needed.

Assistant Director of Nursing Education Requirements


Generally, an assistant director of nursing will require associate’s degree in nursing or a valid certification from a technical school. However, many more go on to obtain a bachelor’s degree. In addition to the standard nursing skills, an assistant director of nursing must be particularly skilled in communication, both with their staff and with patients. They must possess the necessary leadership skills in order to inspire cooperation between the various nurses and the critical thinking and analytical skills to make conflicting personalities work together.
