Athletic Director Jobs

Athletic Director Overview

Athletic Directors are responsible for ensuring that the athletic departments of schools and universities are safe places by making sure that all equipment is stored in its proper place, weight rooms and showers are sanitary and all gear is properly maintained. Athletic Directors are also in charge of making sure that players' papers are up to date, their insurance is on record and all practice sites are properly insured. Athletic Directors work behind the scenes to make a school or university's athletic departments run smoothly. Similar education jobs include positions such as athletic coaches.

To become an Athletic Director, a bachelor's degree in health and physical fitness, physical education, or sports and fitness administration is required. Athletic Directors should be enthusiastic, personable and able to work with others on a regular basis. Other skills that are required are attention to detail, an organized mindset and the ability to work on a deadline.
