Educator Jobs

Educator Job Overview

There are dozens of different jobs that relate to education. While most people think about teachers, librarians, curators, tutors and teaching assistants, there are other types of jobs open in the education field. Some of the types of teaching jobs open to students with an education background include special education teachers, elementary school teachers, high school teachers and professors. Educators often work with a classroom of students. They also attend scheduled meetings with the parents and guardians of their students, supervise field trips and form close relationships with their students.

Educator Job Education Requirements

The amount of education required for these jobs varies based on the job itself. Those working with students in an elementary, middle, junior high or high school must have a license from the state where they plan to work. They can only apply for a license after completing a bachelor's degree in education. Other jobs only require a two-year college degree from a community college, and some positions are open to those with a certificate from a vocational school. Educators working at the college level typically need a graduate degree or PhD and some experience working in the field they teach.

Though this is a faster rate of growth than average, other teaching jobs will increase at a slower rate. High school teaching positions will only increase at a rate of six percent, which is less than the national average and represents an increase of less than 53,000 jobs.
