Technical Trainer Jobs
Technical Trainer Jobs Overview
Technical Trainers, also known as training and development specialists, identify the training needs of an organization and then implement training programs to fulfill the need. Technical Trainers may conduct surveys of focus groups, interview employees or analyze relevant data to assess training needs. Many training positions require the trainer to design curriculum, coursework and training materials for employee development programs.
Trainers are generally supervised by one or more training and development managers, and their daily tasks may vary greatly, depending on the project at hand. They might develop materials for on-site training, online training or training via video conference. They may also develop training documentation, user guides and other technical content required by the organization. Technical Trainers may be hired by a company as employees or contracted for temporary projects through a consulting agency.
Technical Trainer Education and Skills Requirements
Most Technical Trainer positions require a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Management positions may require a master's level education. Previous work experience that includes a technical or teaching background is highly desirable for most jobs. Technical Trainers are needed in all industries. They must have excellent presentation and instructional skills and be able to communicate with individuals at all levels within the company.
Technical Trainer Career Outlook
As organizations adopt new technologies, trainers will be needed to provide the workforce with relevant skills. The career prospects for Technical Trainers are relatively the same as the outlook for other professions. Opportunities are expected to grow by approximately 11 percent before 2022. The information technology, defense, communications and health care industries are currently offering opportunities for Technical Trainers and managers. Other training positions include Call Center Trainers.
Technical Trainer Salary
The median annual salary for Technical Trainers is $57,000, and technical and development managers can expect to earn around $95,400. The average entry-level salary for trainers is approximately $40,000 per year.
