Most employers who are looking to hire a new trainer for their business will seek out candidates who have extensive education. A bachelor’s degree in human resources or business administration is often necessary. In many cases, the requirements are even stricter. Applicants who have a master’s degree have a competitive edge when it comes to finding training jobs. Relevant experience in the industry is also essential.

In some business areas, experience is even more important than a formal education for those with training jobs. For example, an experienced registered nurse may train newer nurses and help them become familiar with the nuances of the job. A few entities, including the American Society for Training and Development and the International Society for Performance Improvement, offer certification programs that can make job candidates even more attractive to employers.
