Maintains the security of the correctional facility and the safety of employees, visitors, and other prisoners by observing prisoner's activities; detecting unusual or prohibited behavior; conducting prisoner counts and transmitting count totals to control officer; conducting searches of prisoners, visitors, employees, mail, packages, cellblocks, and other structures for prohibited items, such as, critical tools, weapons, drugs, or other contraband.

Keeps prisoners healthy by maintaining proper standards of personal care and hygiene of prisoners; dispensing prescribed medications to prisoners; checking and maintaining the orderliness and sanitation of inmate quarters.
