Hospital Jobs

Hospital Jobs Overview

People who pursue hospital jobs often get opportunities to positively impact the lives of patients through friendly interactions and comprehensive care. Although the specific duties vary widely by job type, some of them may include:
  • Working with diagnostic tools to determine the causes of ailments
  • Performing administrative and logistical tasks
  • Determining whether or not patients need to be admitted for further observation
  • Keeping premises clean and organized
  • Transporting patients
  • Checking vital signs
  • Serving food or dispensing medication
One of the notable advantages of working in a hospital job is that there are a huge number of career paths to pursue. Whether you enjoy constant contact with patients as an X-ray technician or would prefer to work behind the scenes in an office as a hospital receptionist, there are many choices to consider.

Hospital Job Education Requirements

As you might expect, the educational requirements for particular hospital jobs are very different depending on the types of tasks a person is required to do. While working as a healthcare aide, for example, an individual may only be required to have a high school diploma and then later go through a period of on-the-job training and mentorship. However, as a registered nurse, it's necessary to have either an Associate's degree or bachelor's degree, which often comes from an approved nursing program at a university.

Hospital Job Market

Many types of job prospects in the healthcare industry have been growing at faster than average rates and are projected to keep doing the same as time goes on. Even during economic downturns, there is a constant need for healthcare. People are not only regularly requiring treatment for chronic illnesses, but there is also a consistent desire to stay as healthy as possible, which often means visiting hospitals for preventative measures such as checkups and screenings. Also, the healthcare jobs market is projected to remain favorable because a growing number of baby boomers are needing healthcare.

Hospital Job Salary Information

Earning potential for people in hospital jobs has a great deal of variation, but generally, people can earn more the longer they stay in the industry. It's also smart to supplement real-world skills with classroom education. A nursing assistant can earn about $29,000 per year, but someone who is in the healthcare field and holds a Master's degree, such as a nurse anesthetist, could earn $96,000 or more.
