Public Health Jobs

Public Health Job Overview

Public Health jobs refer to any positions that deal with the community or public at large. Also known as community health workers, these men and women work in public and private settings and for independent agencies and government organizations. They often research topics and look at data to determine how major diseases, choices and the environment can affect those living in the community. They may also work with patients to show them how they can work to improve their quality of life.

Public Health Job Education Requirements

Most of those working in the Public Health field have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Public Health, community health or another healthcare focus. Those who do the best usually complete an internship during their college years, which lets them work for a Public Health organization and gain an understanding of how that organization operates. Jobs for the state or federal government may only be open to those with a graduate degree or doctorate. Most positions also require some on-the-job training, and other positions require certification from a state or national organization.
