Registered Nurse Jobs - Page 2

Registered Nurse Overview

As an integral part of the health care industry, registered nurses are among the primary caregivers for patients in hospitals, clinics and private practices. Their duties might include recording the symptoms of patients, explaining treatment and medicine, or performing diagnostic tests in preparation for a formal physician's assessment. Registered nurses may work everywhere from the surgical wing of a large hospital to a small medical center or even a public school. Similar healthcare jobs include positions such as Nurse Case Managers.

Registered Nurse Education Requirements

There are three major ways to train for a registered nurse job, but all programs will finish with official licensing to practice in the state. To become a registered nurse, an applicant may obtain a diploma from a specific nursing program, an associate degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing. Along with having the right education, training and licensing, the best nurses in the industry tend to be compassionate, detail-oriented, organized and great at thinking critically.

Registered Nurse Job Market

In the United States today, there are more than 2,711,500 registered nurses working, and it is predicted that the total number will grow substantially over the next decade. Some predictions forecast an increase of more than 1,052,600 new job openings by 2022, which may be a reflection of the growing health care industry as a whole, the aging population and the rise of obesity-related and general health concerns. Whatever the reason, this strong job market is promising for aspiring registered nurses.

Registered Nurse Salaries

The exact salary of a registered nurse will depend on a wide variety of factors that can include everything from geographical location and years of experience to level of education. However, the median salary for a registered nurse in the United States is $65,470 per year, and registered nurses working for the government or for large public and private hospitals can expect to earn even more.
