Resort Manager Jobs

Hospitality Resort Manager Overview

Resort Managers, also known as Lodging Managers, are responsible for the daily operations of a resort or hotel. While Hotel Managers typically work for extended stay and traditional hotels, Resort Managers work for companies that offer more than just a room. Resorts Managers are responsible for the pools, beauty spas, hair salons, and other activities and attractions offered for their guests. Managers also handle the finances and ensure that the resort operates within its budget, takes care of scheduling for employees and order new products and supplies when needed. They also listen to complaints from guests and ensure that guests are happy with their stay. As hotels operate 24 hours a day, managers must be available at all times of the day, including on nights and weekends.

Hospitality Resort Manager Education Requirements

Those working as Resort Managers typically follow one of two paths. Those with a high school degree and little to no college experience can work as a Desk Clerk or Night Auditor and work their way up to positions as managers. Those following the second path complete an associate or bachelor degree before applying for management positions. Some colleges and universities offer students internships and externship experiences in hotels and resorts. Those applying for management jobs must know how to lead a group, have strong organizational and math skills, and be confident working with others.

Hospitality Resort Manager Job Market

The number of positions available in this field will only grow by about 1 percent by 2022, which equates to only 700 new management positions. The job outlook for other hospitality positions is quite higher. Interested job hunters should also look for positions as Hotel, Motel and Resort Desk Clerks, Resort Assistant Managers and as Hotel Managers.
