Web Programmer Jobs
Web Programmer Overview
Web Programmers are Computer Programmers who focus on applications and services that are distributed over the Internet. The distinction between a Web Programmer and a Web Developer or designer is that the Programmer tends to focus on server-side code. Programmers can also work on client-side code but are not generally involved with graphic design, user interfaces or Web standards. Another way to consider it is that Web Programmers are usually also Web Developers, but Web Developers are not necessarily Web Programmers.
Web Programmer Education Requirements
Most Web Programmers have at least a bachelor’s degree, and the degree is usually in computer science. Computer science provides a strong foundation for the additional skills and certifications that Web Programmers will typically have to achieve over the course of their careers. Many Web Programmers will also expand their education with a minor emphasis on network administration. Certifications are often as important as the degree itself, and as software technologies evolve, Web Programmers will generally want to be aggressive in obtaining current certifications.
Web Programmer Job Market
Web Programmers are typically counted as Web Developers, which can make the sub-field challenging to quantify precisely. Web development as a whole is a thriving job market that has continued a trend of both job and salary growth. It is worth noting that the available statistics do not include self-employed Web Programmers, such as freelancers, who are a significant population within the market. Most Web Programmer jobs come from the computer-system design domain and other related information-services domains. There is also growing need for Web Programmers in other industries, including advertising and Public Relations. Web Programmers can also transition horizontally into a wide range of Analyst and Programmer jobs.
Wed Programmer Salary
The average per-hour wage for a Web Programmer in the U.S. is $33.50, and that figure is rising. The average salary for entry-level Web Programmers is $16.13. According to statistics, salary is not heavily influenced by region, but the highest concentration of jobs is in states with robust technology sectors, such as California and New York.
