Windows Administrator Jobs
Windows Administrator Overview
A Windows Administrator is a specific kind of system administrator. The duties of a system administrator, often called a sysadmin, can vary greatly from one organization to the next. Typically, core responsibilities include installing, supporting and maintaining servers and other computer systems. An integral component of supporting and maintaining such systems is preparing for service outages and other complications and responding to them in a timely and cost-efficient manner. A sysadmin dons many hats, including computer technician, and other duties may include project management and light programming. A Windows Administrator is a sysadmin that specializes in the Windows Server operating system.
Windows Administrator Education Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is usually required to achieve an entry-level position as a sysadmin, and many sysadmins have multiple degrees and even a master’s degree. Effective degrees for this field include management information systems, network administration, network engineering, computer science and so forth. A sysadmin requires a diverse skill set, including numerous certifications, and most sysadmin will have to continue their education while working in order to keep up with the pace of technology. A Windows sysadmin must have Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) and Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification. Although not necessary, Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) certification is a feather in a Windows sysadmin’s cap. Furthermore, Windows sysadmin may require Microsoft Specialist (MS) certification in any specialized areas of technology that are used by the employer.
Windows Administrator Job Market
Windows administrator jobs are included with all network and computer system administrator positions, so it is difficult to discuss this niche job market specifically. Nevertheless, the sysadmin job market as a whole is experiencing growth, and a positive conclusion can be drawn by the overall popularity of Windows Server in the business sector. With the necessary certifications, a Windows administrator can fill many other System Manager and System Engineer positions.
