Law Office Manager Jobs Overview


Law office managers wear many hats and often multitask. These professionals oversee the work of everyone in the office, including legal secretaries, paralegals and attorneys. Work settings vary from private law firms to government agencies and even nonprofit organizations. Law office managers are generally in charge of payroll, hiring and organizing and supervising the technical and administrative duties of the office. Law office managers deal with a wide array of people and need to have excellent communication skills along with knowledge about human resources and finance.

Law Office Manager Jobs Education Requirements


Educational requirements to become a law office manager vary from employer to employer. However, those with a certificate as a legal assistant, Associate of Applied Science in Business Office Management and Technology or a Bachelor of Science in Legal Assisting have the best prospects. Certificates for legal assistants typically take less than one year to complete and include courses like introduction to law, contracts, drafting legal documents, accounting and bookkeeping. An Associate of Science in Administrative Office Management provides students with the skills and knowledge for legal computer work, how to maintain legal records and how to coordinate office operations. A Bachelor of Science in Legal Assistance degree helps pave the way for opportunities in law office management positions and the paralegal field. Common courses include insurance and risk management, administrative law, dispute resolution and legal studies.

Law Office Manager Jobs Outlook


The demand for law office managers and legal assistants is expected to grow by 17 percent through 2022. The need for law firms to increase office efficiency and the need for professionals to perform administrative tasks will fuel this strong demand. Many law firms also seek to cut in-house legal department costs by relying on office managers to both oversee office employees and to perform everyday payroll tasks. Openings for these professionals will be in law firms, consulting firms and insurance companies.
