Manufacturing Engineer Jobs

Manufacturing Engineer Overview

Someone working as a manufacturing engineer, a position also sometimes called an industrial engineer or industrial designer, has the responsibility of streamlining the process of manufacturing. Their goals are to eliminate wastefulness when creating a new product in a factory, utilize machinery in the most efficient way possible, help ensure that the entire manufacturing process is safe and create a more affordable way for companies to create products for their consumers. In order to achieve these objectives, manufacturing engineers might need to update machinery, train new employees, change the layout of a factory or change shift times in order to make employees more productive.

Manufacturing Engineer Education Requirements

It is nearly impossible to secure a career as a manufacturing engineer without at least a bachelor's degree. Most can typically major in industrial, mechanical, manufacturing or commercial engineering. Many of the most successful manufacturing engineers also have a graduate certification like a master's degree, which can further advance their knowledge and help them to develop managerial skills for top positions in the field.

Manufacturing Engineer Job Market

Statistics suggest that between 2012 and 2022, the demand for manufacturing engineers will increase by 5 percent. This job market growth is roughly in line with the average career growth in the United States, and it translates to approximately 7,540 job openings available each year. This level of growth ensures that graduates will have plenty of opportunities to secure a related career with a large corporation, a factory or an overseas manufacturer after they graduate from college.
