Marketing Administrative Assistant Overview

Those who enjoy working in fast-paced environments might enjoy a career as a Marketing Administrative Assistant. The position involves more than answering telephones and passing along messages. Administrative assistants are often called upon to schedule appointments, arrange conferences and supervise the clerical staff. The position might require customer service, such as taking orders and fielding correspondence. The job may entail creating and maintaining databases as well as mailing out promotional material and other correspondence. Employees in this position may find themselves handling financial matters like processing checks and invoices as well as maintaining employee payroll records.

Marketing Administrative Assistant Education Requirements

A high school diploma or its equivalent is the minimum requirement for this position although some companies may require an associates or bachelor's degree. Candidates for jobs as Marketing Administrative Assistants should be comfortable with computer software such as word processing, desktop publishing and e-mail.
This position requires exceptional organizational skills because administrative assistants are often required to keep track of several activities at once. Interpersonal skills are important because administrative assistants often serve as liaisons between customers and employees. Prior management experience may not be necessary; however, candidates with leadership qualities who know how to coordinate people and resources may have an edge over those who do not. Marketing Administrative Assistants must have superior oral and written communication skills because they will be required to correspond via email, letters and telephone. Candidates must be able to listen to others, be able to assess the needs of others and solve problems.
