Operations Manager Overview
Operations managers are responsible for a number of tasks in retail stores, including the supervision of staff, managing projects, working with clients and solving various problems that arise. The specific tasks vary day by day and also by the sector of the industry an Operations Manager works in. Operations managers need a college degree and some on-the-job experience in order to successfully find employment, but the pay is well worth it.
Operations Manager Education Requirements
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, management science or a related field is required, as are several years of experience working in the industry. In addition, operations managers must have strong social skills and be able to communicate clearly and efficiently with employees, be able to effectively handle computers and make decisions quickly.
Operations Manager Job Market
The job market for operations managers is expected to grow by 12 percent by 2022, which is about average for most careers. This will lead to an estimated 61,310 job openings each year. Most operations managers find themselves employed in retail stores, though some work in smaller shops as well. Some operations managers also work as consultants on a freelance basis, which presents another potential avenue for employment.

Operations managers make a large salary that is heavily dependent on their employer. Operations managers can make between $21 and $66 an hour and annual salaries can range from $45,000 to $138,000 depending on the individual company or firm; experience and seniority are also factors in determining specific wages. Operations managers who work in a consulting capacity can charge higher rates for their time and determine their own wage level.
