Product Manager Overview
Product managers are responsible for managing products within a business. When a new product is launched, it is up to the product manager to ensure it sells and meets the goals of the business. Product managers must ensure there is enough supply to meet the demand but not so much that the market becomes oversaturated. Because of the importance of the role, product managers are well paid.
Product Manager Education Requirements
To become a product manager, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field is required. In addition, job experience is usually a plus. Product managers are usually hired internally, which means employees must work toward the position from an entry level. Product managers must be skilled in managing the flow of work in addition to possessing a keen eye for detail and a comfort with public speaking. Computer skills are also necessary.
Product Manager Job Market
The job availability for product managers is expected to grow by 13 percent by 2022, which is about the average. This increase will result in an estimated 6,170 new jobs per year.
