Part Time Quality Assurance Overview


Part time Quality Assurance professionals make sure the job is done right -- whether their job involves testing a product, helping to create a safe car or anything in between. As in all fields that depend on maintaining quality products and services, metrics and statistical methods are used to inspect, test and analyze products, procedures and processes. Job tasks can include anything from trying out the products to analyzing current procedures and policies, reviewing industry laws, handling quality problems and identifying improperly regulated areas. Depending on the position, part time quality assurance professionals utilize various tools to accomplish the necessary tasks, including calipers, alignment gauges, coordinate-measuring machines and voltmeters. Individuals entering this field need to be prepared to create inspection reports, recording any defects and solutions. They note any problems, send the defective items in for repair or fix minor issues and send their results to quality assurance inspectors for certification.

Part Time Quality Assurance Education Requirements


To find work as a part time quality assurance professional, individuals need to a have at least a high school diploma, which provides the necessary education to perform basic product testing. For those who wish to ascertain precision-inspection positions, having further experience in this field is essential. Part time quality assurance employees can increase their marketability by studying industrial trades at a post-secondary vocational school and gaining hands-on experience through lab work. Most individuals obtain on-the-job training, which lasts between one month and one year. Training can include note taking, written and verbal communication and reporting and learning about safety requirements. To increase one's chances of advancement, the American Society for Quality provides various certifications, such as the Certified Quality Inspector credential. In order to qualify for certification, individuals need to have several years of experience and pass the qualifying exam. With the proper education and experience, these professionals may become quality control supervisors or a quality assurance auditors.
