Real Estate Administrative Assistant Overview


Real estate administrative assistants perform routine tasks around a real estate office. They do not possess a license to buy and sell real estate, but they do handle clerical work, including answering the phone, filing documents, and talking with clients. Assistants will answer questions that clients have over the phone, schedule appointments, answer emails and meet the needs of their employers. Some assistants will also draw up contracts and make lists of client wishes before scheduling an appointment. Administrative assistants also do well in areas such as property apartment management, property assisting and real estate development assisting.

Real Estate Administrative Assistant Education Requirements


Real estate administrative assistant jobs do not typically require any type of advanced degree. Companies hire workers with a high school diploma or GED, but potential employees must possess some specific skills relating to the job. They will need to know the basics of different computer programs, including how to respond to emails, complete presentations and write out documents in word processing programs. Some companies require that new assistants spend a few months working with an administrative assistant to gain a better understanding of the position and the terminology needed. Assistants can also gain some of the skills they need in a vocational training program.

According to statistics, administrative assistant jobs will grow at a rate of 12 percent by 2022. This indicates a rate of growth that is on par with other jobs. The projected number of available administrative assistant positions will grow by 479,500 by 2022. As long as the real estate market continues fluctuating, those selling homes will need support staff in their offices. Real estate administrative assistants can work for Realtors, real estate agents, brokerage firms, house flippers and other people who are buying and selling homes.

Real estate administrative assistants typically make an hourly wage as opposed to an annual salary. That hourly wage ranges from $10 to $21 an hour. Some workers report making as much as $70,000 a year.
