Real Estate Chief Financial Officer Overview


Real estate chief financial officers work in a managerial or executive role in a real estate firm, and this may be for an investment real estate firm, a development company or a real estate financing company. The professional is generally responsible for the accounting and financial management of the company, and this may include payroll, commissions, accounts payable, managing clients’ portfolios and making budgetary projections. In addition, the professional may manage bank accounts and other assets, ensure compliance with regulations and complete other financial management tasks and functions. Those who work in this field may also hold positions with job titles such as real estate controller and real estate financial executive.

Real Estate Chief Financial Officer Education Requirements


A real estate chief financial officer must be highly proficient in financial management and accounting tasks, and the individual also should have a sound education in real estate investments and portfolio management. Because of this, many companies require a successful applicant to have at least a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or a related field. Some may also require the candidate to have a post-graduate degree and experience in the real estate industry. The CFO may work closely with the CEO and other senior managers or executives, and the professional may also communicate in front of groups regularly. Because of this, the candidate may need to demonstrate great communication skills and the ability to manage or lead others.
