Criminal Justice Jobs - Page 2

Criminal Justice Overview

Criminal Justice encompasses a wide range of professions and potential jobs, from lawyers and policemen to forensic investigatorsand teachers. A Criminal Justice professional is simply someone who is educated in this field and can perform many of these tasks based on the training they have been given. One is likely to find Criminal Justice professionals working at a crime scene, at a prison or even behind the scenes, helping others to coordinate an investigation.

Criminal Justice Educational Requirements

Educational requirements vary based on what subset of Criminal Justice someone is interested in. To become a police officer, only a high school diploma is needed. To become a forensic expert, a bachelor's degree would be needed in the respective field. To become a lawyer, higher education than that is needed. On-the-job training is usually given, and many Criminal Justice professionals begin their careers as interns and work their way up into the positions they are interested in. Criminal Justice requires working with others on a regular basis, so conversational skills are a plus.

Criminal Justice Job Market

Criminal Justice jobs are always in high demand. Many police forces are perpetually understaffed, although at present, there is an excess of lawyers. Because of the sheer number of professions that the term Criminal Justice encompasses, exact numbers are impossible to grasp. However, the market as a whole is constantly growing, and there will always be a need for Criminal Justice and law enforcement experts.

Criminal Justice Salary

A correctional officer can make between $27,000 and $69,600 a year while a professor of Criminal Justice might make as much as $98,500 in a year. The amount a Criminal Justice professional is paid is based upon what area of the field they work in, their experience and who employs them. The field itself tends to be lucrative as many parts of the job are high-risk and may include a certain amount of hazard pay.
