Electrician Jobs - Page 6

Electrician Overview

Electricians are an integral part of any new construction project, and they are also necessary when it comes to keeping existing structures safe. Electricians are responsible for installing the wiring of an electrical system, maintaining these systems, testing the safety of the electrical components and troubleshooting about related problems. Electricians may work in homes under construction, residential home remodels or even in large commercial buildings and factories, and they often work side by side with plumbers, framing carpenters and painters.

Electrician Educational Requirements

In order to secure a job as an electrician, it is typically required that applicants have at least a high school diploma. However, a college degree is not necessary for most positions within the field. Instead, many electricians attend a technical school for certification, or they may enter into an apprenticeship program and work alongside an experienced electrician for several years of training. After completing a technical school program or an apprenticeship program, electricians need to pass a state exam in order to be fully licensed.

Electrician Job Market

Between 2012 and 2022, the job market for electricians in the United States is forecast to rise by 20 percent, which is higher than average for occupations in the country. The total amount of electricians predicted to be employed in 2022 is 698,200, which is 100,000 more than are currently employed. This translates to an annual increase of electrician jobs by 22,460, which is great news for aspiring electricians or anyone considering this career path for their future.

Electrician Salary

The median pay for an electrician is $49,840. However, it is important to note that electrician apprentices can earn substantially less, and those with experience in the field can earn twice as much in some locations. Factors that can influence the salary of an electrician include whether they specialize in residential or commercial work, whether they are freelance employers or they work for a large electrical firm, whether they live in an urban area or a rural location and how much experience they have in the field.
